Since
graduating at the Victorian College of the Arts in 1996, James Wilkinson
has been actively involved in the experimental music scene. James
can regularly be found around town performing with a varied group
of improvisers that reflect his broad depth of experience and his
interest in exploring different musical traditions. Not only is
he to be found in local pubs but he has also toured extensively,
under different guises, performing at various festivals and musical
events in almost all Australian capital cities.
More
recently James has been part of the Big Day Out in both Melbourne
and Sydney and has been a regular performer in the What is Music?
Festival since 1997. His current projects include Bucketrider, (improvisational/new
music), High Pass Filter (a dub-improvisational-electronica punk
band), The Snuff Puppet (an idiosyncratic performance group), Archeopytrex
(an improvisational/faux soundtrack quartet) and the Greg Kingston
Big Band and New Music Lighthouse Ensemble.
